Latest US results for the twins (Feb 1, 2010)

Impression from the last Ultrasound test/scanning (Feb 1, 2010):
Twin live intrauterine pregnancies, both with good cardiac and somatic activities.

Twin A: in cephalic presentation, 34 weeks by BPD and 35 weeks by FL. Adequate Amniotic Fluid. Estimated fetal weight (2,218 grams) is appropriate for gestational age. BPP= 10/10. Doppler flow studies of the umbilical artery show normal values.

Twin B: in breech presentation, 33 4/7 weeks by BPD and 35 weeks by FL. Adequate Amniotic Fluid. Estimated fetal weight (2,295 grams) is appropriate for gestational age. BPP= 10/10. Doppler flow studies of the umbilical artery show normal values.

Placenta is anterior, high lying, grade II. Placentation appears monochorionic, diamniotic.

*** They were not able to check the gender of the twins

Some things mommies may want to know...

  • Cephalic: Baby is in 'head down' position. This is the correct position.
  • Breech: Baby is in 'buttocks down' position. This can be corrected.
  • BPD: Biparietal diameter (BPD) is the diameter across the developing baby's skull.
  • FL: Femur length (FL) is the measurement of the upper leg bone.
  • Amniotic Fluid: The fluid bathing the fetus, serving as a shock absorber.
  • Gestational Age: Time measured from the first day of the woman's last menstrual cycle to the current date.
  • BPP: The fetal biophysical profile (BPP) is a test performed to measure fetal well-being. It uses ultrasonography to measure fetal breathing, fetal movement, fetal tone, and amniotic fluid volume. A non-stress test is done to assess fetal heart rate. Each of these five variables is given a score of zero or two, for a potential total score of 10.
  • Anterior: This means that the placenta is located on the front of the uterus. (Posterior: at the back of the uterus).
  • High lying placenta is better than a low lying placenta, which is often associated with Placenta Previa.
  • Placenta Grade: This is based on the maturity of your placenta. Grade 2 placenta is normal at 35 going to 36 weeks (according to my ob).
  • Monochorionic: The twins share the same chorion. The chorion is the outer membrane of the sac surrounding a fetus in utero.
  • Diamniotic: This means that the twins are developing within separate amniotic cavities.

ISSUE: My last ob told me that I'll be having a girl and a boy. However, based on the internet, "Monochorionic-Diamniotic twins are almost always monozygotic, with a few exceptions where the blastocysts have fused". Hmmm.... so there is a high - I mean very high - possibility that my twins will actually be identical, I'll have a boy-boy or girl-girl pair.... that is why I've got to think of more baby names.

Hi sis! My gosh, I am so happy for you that you got twins in your tummy right now! What a blessing! I just read your Facebook status and you said you need Type B blood donors, I'm sorry but I am type O. I guess type O is a universal blood donor type. How I wish I could help. I mean, I am healthy you know. Anyhow, I will be praying for the success of your CS sis!

Real Leaf Paparazzi

I have never been a fan of sodas. Nor did I ever engage in a one-night spree with beer or vodka. Instead, I have always loved ice-cold tea. Drinking tea is a habit I’ve developed since I was in college and my ‘tea-addictivity’ has never wavered since. I’ve patiently put up with teabags for years but fortunately, bottled-up teas are now available and distributed in heaps. These days, I’m much fond of Nestea’s Real Leaf Tea and I share this fondness with my two closest “allies” – my partner in life and my younger brother. W hat follows is our one big atte mpt to encourage more people to engage in our quest for a Real Life with Coca Cola’s Real Le af tea (and of course, an attempt to get a prize from Nuffnang's exciting contest- Real Leaf Paparazzi!)… This is the typical “Juan” trying to have a Real Life. With the help of the Real Leaf tea, my brother 'John' tries to stay 100% on. He tries to relieve the exhaustion, stress, and anxiety brought by… (a) a hard day’s work as a n...

Mommy Moments: Dear Mommy

Dear Mommy Dear Mommy, your child is your princess. She is your responsibility. If not for her own sake, never let her get hurt by any means. Dear Mommy, your child is your fan. She learns and takes after what you do, how you feel, where you go, how you react, what you think, why you love and why you hate. For her, be the best. Do not fail at being a good person for she too might suffer the same fate. Dear Mommy, your child is your student. Teach her everything that you know and guide her in every way that you can. Bombard her with good thoughts, warm emotions, and logical and critical reasoning. Empower her with love, understanding and patience. Dear Mommy, your child is your flesh and blood. Accept her. Recognize the whole of her - strengths, weaknesses, successes, and failures. Never forsake her for making wrong decisions and doing wrong things. She needs your guidance and your encouragement, not your pity, pride, and punishment. She needs you even when she says she doesn...
