Of Moms and Wishes

Sometimes I wish I had the power to instantly change the world for the better... so that every street kid would instantly have a happy meal, the homeless and informal settlers would have permanent, legal homes, public school kids would have plenty of books and chairs, rebels hiding in the mountains would be united with their families, drivers would stop drinking or texting while driving, smokers would just quit smoking, alcoholics would just drink tea instead, no one can do abortion, and there would be free food and medicine for the needy... but then, I wake myself up and I know that those things are quite impossible to instantly happen...

For my Inang Bayan...

The bad news is that things are getting worse than ever. According to the World Bank, almost three billion pesos is wasted in widespread corruption in our country. That's an awfully big amount considering that 8.1 million Filipino families rate themselves as poor based on the most recent SWS (Social Weather Station) survey. Worse, 2.8 million of the supposed-to-be workforce of the country are wasting their skills and talents because they don't have jobs - and those who have jobs are mostly underemployed. At this rate, how would you expect people to send their kids to school and feed them properly? It's quite a pity that some parents engage in illegal activities just to provide their kids' daily living necessities...

With just a day before the Elections, I wish votes would really lead to a better Philippines... a country that we can all be more proud of...

For Mother Earth...
Don't you just hate it when somebody spits his overly chewed bubble gum on the floor? That is totally so irresponsible, not to mention disgusting and inconsiderate... but more than gums and candy wrappers, I (and maybe some of you too) hate the fact that...

> Some people complain of sky-high electricity bills when they can't even turn off the lights and the air conditioner before they leave their rooms
> Some people have functional legs but they would opt to use their car even when they're just going to a convenient store a few meters away from their house
> Some people have the guts to ignore a huge garbage bin beside them and instead, throw the plastic cups they just used elsewhere...

I think everyone has observed that this summer is definitely hotter than the previous ones and that earthquakes and storms are becoming more unpredictable than ever so I wish that everyone would realize that we owe Mother Earth big time... I wish every one who breathes air will be a bit more caring for the environment and start taking little green steps to salvage what's left of our home...

For My Mom, The Best-EST MAMA ever...
I love my mom so much and I am so so proud that she is my mother.... and yet, I sometimes fail to show her how much I really care for her. I know I have failed her in so many ways, especially when I got pregnant and went off with someone she didn't approve of... I can't tell how sorry I am for what I did and I'm glad that she actually forgave me and accepted the family that I have now... Nonetheless, I still wish that I can be that daughter she has always wanted me to be... I wish I can be somebody she can be proud of once again...

...and finally, I wish that someday, my daughters would be proud of having me as their nanay in the same way that I am proud to have my mom...

Real Leaf Paparazzi

I have never been a fan of sodas. Nor did I ever engage in a one-night spree with beer or vodka. Instead, I have always loved ice-cold tea. Drinking tea is a habit I’ve developed since I was in college and my ‘tea-addictivity’ has never wavered since. I’ve patiently put up with teabags for years but fortunately, bottled-up teas are now available and distributed in heaps. These days, I’m much fond of Nestea’s Real Leaf Tea and I share this fondness with my two closest “allies” – my partner in life and my younger brother. W hat follows is our one big atte mpt to encourage more people to engage in our quest for a Real Life with Coca Cola’s Real Le af tea (and of course, an attempt to get a prize from Nuffnang's exciting contest- Real Leaf Paparazzi!)… This is the typical “Juan” trying to have a Real Life. With the help of the Real Leaf tea, my brother 'John' tries to stay 100% on. He tries to relieve the exhaustion, stress, and anxiety brought by… (a) a hard day’s work as a n...

Life In Taborea: The World Of Runes Of Magic

Runes of Magic (RoM) is a free massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed by the Taiwanese developer Runewaker Entertainment. It's here in the Philippines now, and has been in Open Beta since January 8. My brother is addicted to the game and I have read a lot of rave reviews about it. The most frequent of which is the fact that its graphics are very appealing and quite realistic. S et in a fantasy world filled with magic, monsters, and heroes, it gives you an out of this world experience as you try out a variety of quests and battle with f ellow players and monsters. Whenever you take on your character - may it be a rogue, mage, priest, warrior, or knight, you will feel as if you're leading a double life. Those who have loved DOTA and World of Warcraft will definitely enj oy this game more. If you want to know more about the game, please check http://www.runesofmagic.com.ph/ . ............................................................. PRELUDE At times...

Mommy Moments: Dear Mommy

Dear Mommy Dear Mommy, your child is your princess. She is your responsibility. If not for her own sake, never let her get hurt by any means. Dear Mommy, your child is your fan. She learns and takes after what you do, how you feel, where you go, how you react, what you think, why you love and why you hate. For her, be the best. Do not fail at being a good person for she too might suffer the same fate. Dear Mommy, your child is your student. Teach her everything that you know and guide her in every way that you can. Bombard her with good thoughts, warm emotions, and logical and critical reasoning. Empower her with love, understanding and patience. Dear Mommy, your child is your flesh and blood. Accept her. Recognize the whole of her - strengths, weaknesses, successes, and failures. Never forsake her for making wrong decisions and doing wrong things. She needs your guidance and your encouragement, not your pity, pride, and punishment. She needs you even when she says she doesn...
